WEKFEST SF 2012 Part:I

21 02 2012

Its been awhile since I’ve done this, but its one of the annual shows I usually attend. It seems like just yesterday when it was just a small show in a Japantown parking garage. Wekfest now, as one of my friends calls it :”The Mecca of All Car Shows”, and I am going to agree. The sheer number of people waiting to get into the show still amazes me. People even camped out in front to be first ones in, and Fort Mason is right next to the Bay(think really cold and night). Crazy or dedicated I’m not quite sure..

As usual the caliber of cars was excellent, some pretty crazy builds. A nice mix of tuning styling represented, but I still like my Honda’s, and the older pre-90′s cars.

Trends seem to still be headed in the “Hellaflush” direction, Good or bad, I’m still on the wall about it. Maybe its my reluctance to change, guess I’m still stuck in old ways. “If it doesn’t make it faster, brake harder, or handle better, I don’t need it.” Thats used to be my motto… looking good was just a byproduct. The racing aspect of cars will always be number one for me.

Wekfest to me will always be a place/time to see old friends, and make new ones. I think Wekfest will just keep getting bigger and better.. I can’t wait for next year already.

For The Kids Toy Drive 2011

15 11 2011

For six years now ATS Garage and PlusONE have been hosting the annual holiday toy drive & charity car show. I tip my hat to them, Full Function Technology, Weksos Industries, and everyone in attendance as over 700 toys were collected. Even during tough times, everyone seems to be reaching into their heart and giving more each year. All those toys are going to make a lot of children happy this holiday season.

After following its build progress for SEMA, I finally got to check out RWB’s Pandora One in person. I am a big fan of RAUH Welt-BEGRIFF Porsche builds, as they remind me of 911 GT3 Cup cars of the past, but in a street version.

A few other SEMA cars

Thanks also goes out to New Haven Teacher’s Association and Union City Police Officers Association, Alameda Fire Department and The Union City Raptors Youth Basketball

4.13.2011 Sonoma DRIFT Exibition

3 05 2011

I know its super late , but here is my coverage of the Sonoma Drift exhibition at Infineon Raceway held on April 13th 2011. Drifting , Drag Racing, and Car Show all at the same place and the same time. I really hope they make this a regular event as drifting events where people can practice up here in Northern California, as places/events are far and few between. It was a good mix of professional and amateur drifters that made quite a show.

Notable drifter(s) Matt Field, brought his LSx powered S14, and Calvin Wan brought out his venerable FD Rx7. The sound of a 13b screaming down the track still brings a smile to my face, its just an amazing sound. I thought this one WRX in particular was quite interesting, because it was converted to RWD. I have seen similarly setup cars in videos from Japan, but this is the first I have seen in person. Also the flat black GS300 powered by a LSx was one of my favorites, show and go in the same package.

It was also my first trip of the season to the Wednesday night drags, hope to scrap my car together for a few runs this summer. Yea, drag racing might not be the flavor anymore, but its one of my first passions, and i still LOVE it.

Had a great time at the event, and hope there is more to come!

Japan Relief Gathering Coverage!

5 04 2011

Let me start by saying it was an honor and a privilege to be help be a part of the Japan Relief Gathering and it wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for Jimmy Uy, Jessica Leong, Matthel Ma, and Mike Cruz. Major Props goes to them for all the logistics and organization they brought to the table. It all started with an idea to help with the relief effort, and a network of friends. We all put in a lot of time and work in the span of two weeks to make this happen, thats right.. this was put together in 2 weeks time from idea to action. Lots of roadblocks and setbacks were thrown in our way but we never lost sight of our goal, to raise money for the relief effort in japan. If we could help just one person there out of all of this.. it would be worth it.

Working the donation line, i got to see the generosity of random people. One example was this one lady in curiosity walked over to see what the crowd was about, and when we told her our cause, she reached into her purse and donated 20 dollars and walked away.

It was a long busy day for the staff, but it was worth it. I didn’t expect the amount of cars and spectators! From all makes and models , from Domestic to Euro, from four wheels to two, everyone showed up in force for the cause. I saw people I never thought I would see at a car show! I tried to take as many pics as i could, but like i said it was a hectic day for me so enjoy!

Again i would like to thank my fellow staff members for all the work and time they put in and for everyone that attented! I was stopped several times by people thanking us for what were doing! Proceeds from the Japan Relief Gathering will be going to the http://jcccnc.org/ . It doesn’t stop there though , so please donate! People still need help!
