Speed Ventures Buttonwillow Raceway 10.23.2011

28 10 2011

Despite going to many tracks to spectate and take pictures, I have never been on the track as driver or passenger. Many of my friends are “track whores” and they have been encouraging me to buy a helmet so they can show me what I have been missing out on. So when this track day came around, I was ready with my helmet in hand.

My friend Blue offered me a ride in his Honda S2000, and I jumped at the chance. Sitting on the grid, I look around and see we are surrounded by Porsche 911′s, Time-attack prepped EVO’s, and well… Race Cars. I thought I was going to be nervous , but I was more excited than anything. I must say it was everything I thought it was going to be. I imagined it being like a video game, except with G-Force. One thing that stood out was the power difference and grip in the EVO’s, on the main straights they take off like jets compared to the S2000. Even though Blue said his car was slow because of his new setup, I thought it was damn fast for my standards. By the way I will never mock the S2000′s with the big GT wings again, for the most part they actually work! (if you drive the car to that limit) In the end, it was quite an experience.. Thanks Blue!

My pics aren’t the best, I has pretty hungover most of the day, but here are a few decent ones.

9.6.2010 NCRC Laguna Seca Track Day

9 09 2010

Spent this past Labor day with my crew at Laguna Seca, and it doesn’t get any better. With the beautiful rolling hills of Monterrey as a backdrop, and the sounds of cars screaming around the track, it is truly automotive bliss. The track is quite different when there aren’t thousands of fans around.

Walking up the hill to corkscrew is always an adventure in itself, but its always so worth it when you get to the top. There was a moment when i was all alone at the corkscrew, and the only other people around were the ones lapping the track. It was kinda surreal, it was calm and dead silence between cars, then for a few seconds all hell would break lose. Spent most of the day alone walking around the track, it was kinda nice Nature+Racing= awesome.

I really want to build a track car now, but i need to finish my civic first. I do have alot of spare parts of a crx/ef, ohhh the ideas floating around in my head.

Also, this was the first time I’ve seen a Ferrari F40 in person, RACING at Laguna Seca. V8 twin-turbo never sounded so good.

5.6.2010 NCRC Buttonwillow Track Day

8 06 2010

Went to Buttonwillow with some of my homies this past weekend to take some pics, and despite the 95+ temps, its was a blast. A good mix of cars were in attendance everything from alfa romeo’s to the infamous ZR-1 corvette. I think it was the first time i have seen the ZR-1 in a race environment, that thing has crazy power on the main straight. I think the most notable cars from sunday were this race spec Ferrari i think it was a 360, and this black Lotus Exige, both super awesome, and fast. Like i said in my tweet, it was an orgasm for the ears, and being i am a car nut, it was like heaven.

I kinda want to build a track car now, with all my spare parts maybe i should build another ef, or crx. Oh yea major thanks goes out to the s2ki guys who let us hide from the sun in their paddock, and you guys are beasts on the track!
