Toyotafest 2011

23 05 2011

One of my stops during my socal trip was the 16th annual Toyotafest at the Queen Mary in Long Beach CA. All Toyota models were welcomed, from today’s modern Lexus, to the old school Toyota’s of the yesteryear’s. I love the venue of Toyotafest, with the Queen Mary , and the Long beach waterfront as the backdrop. It was such a nice change from the usual parking lot show.

What i really like about Toyotafest was the spectrum of cars/trucks and tuning styles, it was a little bit of everything. My personal favorites were the old school Corollas,Celicas, etc, but i also love Toyota trucks. Toyota also brought their new Lexus LFA. Ive never seen one in person, and it was pretty nice. They even revved it for us, and it sounded awesome! Although the $375,000 price tag is hefty , no doubt they will sell all 150 coming to the United States.

Really thinking about coming back down when they hold the Japanese Classic Car Show…. Old school is best!

Enjoy

BlackTrax Buttonwillow Track Day 5.13.2011

20 05 2011

I was headed down to socal for Eibach , and decided to stop off at Buttonwillow raceway where BlackTrax Performance was hosting a track day. Got there kinda late, but got to catch some of the last sessions of the day. The usual mix of S2000 were tearing up the track, and Eibach Springs was there testing out a few cars and setups.

Weather seemed pretty good, it was warm but it wasn’t that bad. Although what would racing be like without it being hot , or super cold. Like i said before i was there for the last session, so i didn’t get as many pics in as i wanted.

Every time I go to the track , it makes me want to get into racing. I want to build another car purposely for road racing, i mean i could use my EF, but alot of the parts on her are geared for Drag. Thinking about getting another EF/CRX, and build up another B-series and pair it up with a decent suspension setup. Sounds like it could be fun, plus i got a lot of spare EF/CRX parts laying around. Oh and i can’t forget a big wing, that is the prerequisite for road racing now isn’t it? hahaha

Eibach Meet 2011

17 05 2011

Every year now, i try to make it down to Socal for the annual Eibach meet. The meet which brings together Honda fans from all around the country to Eibach Springs in Corona CA. For me and the rest of the Norcal guys to drive down is one thing, but some guys drive from across the country. It still amazes me how far some of the people travel, it takes some dedication. For that, I commend you guys that make that long journey!

So i wake up the morning of Eibach and look out my hotel window to see rain. Wait, it rains in socal? IMPOSSIBLE! As much as i didn’t want it to , this day was gonna start out soggy. Walked around managing to take a few shots while it was drizzling but showers started to move in and I had to take cover inside the building, but it gave me a chance to check out some of the vendors. N1 Concepts unveiled their S3200 a S2000 powered by Honda’s J32a, I can’t wait to see it in action this year! Ive always wondered what the S2000 platform would of been like with a V6, if the NSX and S2000 had a love child this would probably be something like it.

Got to meet new people and see old friends, that’s what I like about Eibach, kicking it with cool people that share the same love you do about cars. Also I can’t forget the amount of awesome Honda’s in attendance!

One more thing, Since the San Francisco Giants won the world series in 2010 I have never been heckled so much at a car event! It was awesome! I know we were in Dodger territory, that’s what made it great to see a lot of Bay Area guys rocking the Orange and Black! Ohh the stink eyes and anti Giant comments! I love socal though, so don’t hate on me too much!

4.13.2011 Sonoma DRIFT Exibition

3 05 2011

I know its super late , but here is my coverage of the Sonoma Drift exhibition at Infineon Raceway held on April 13th 2011. Drifting , Drag Racing, and Car Show all at the same place and the same time. I really hope they make this a regular event as drifting events where people can practice up here in Northern California, as places/events are far and few between. It was a good mix of professional and amateur drifters that made quite a show.

Notable drifter(s) Matt Field, brought his LSx powered S14, and Calvin Wan brought out his venerable FD Rx7. The sound of a 13b screaming down the track still brings a smile to my face, its just an amazing sound. I thought this one WRX in particular was quite interesting, because it was converted to RWD. I have seen similarly setup cars in videos from Japan, but this is the first I have seen in person. Also the flat black GS300 powered by a LSx was one of my favorites, show and go in the same package.

It was also my first trip of the season to the Wednesday night drags, hope to scrap my car together for a few runs this summer. Yea, drag racing might not be the flavor anymore, but its one of my first passions, and i still LOVE it.

Had a great time at the event, and hope there is more to come!
