Some of the best sounding cars in the world, hands down, are made by Ferrari. There was no short supply of them when Ferrari held its Ferrari Racing Days, and 458 Challenge at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma California. The sun was out shining, and the sound of Ferrari’s in the air, talk about the cliche California Life.
There were a lot of awesome cars F430′s, Testarossa’s, F360′s,550 Maranello, and lots of 458 Italias just to name a few. Got to check out some of the 458 Challenge cars in person, they were pretty cool, like real expensive big kid toys.. real expensive. They even brought out some 599xx/599xx Evo’s which are very rare, and were quite the treat to see in action. That’s until they took Ruben Barrichellos 2003 F1 car out.
This is one of the cars from the V10 era. Now I’ve only experienced F1 from TV, and it does not represent it well compared to in person. Let me tell you the sound of the v10 at 19,000rpm screaming down the front straight was damn awesome. I can only explain it with one word “Eargasam”. I felt privileged to see it in person,scratch one off my bucket list. I can only imagine what its like when they had a full field on track..
Seeing a v10 era F1 car in action was the highlight of my day. Made everything else I saw that day look like child’s play…

Didn’t originally plan on going to global time attack, but we planned a random trip down the day of the time attack. We already missed the morning sessions by the time we left the City. Got there kinda late so didn’t get a chance to see some of the cars in action. Global time attack was also held with Motoiq Pacific Tuner Car Championship and NASA so the track was filled with racers. Everything from spec E30′s to Honda challenge cars.
I’ve never been to a time attack, it was a refreshing experience. Definitely gonna go to the next one so I can see all the cars in action, before they crash or blow up.
Super random / last minute trip but so worth it.

Went out to to watch a few Izod Indycar teams test out the new 2012 cars at Infineon Raceway the other day. The new 2012 cars sport very different aero packages compared to last year. With a wider underwing, rear fairings, and rear crash structure to enhance safety. Even though they made some drastic changes to the look, all the changes seem to emphasis on safety, which is always good.
The cars are now powered by Honda,Chevy, or Lotus turbocharged 2.2 liter V6′s running on E85-R. With 22.47psi lbs of boost from BorgWarner turbo(s) and a 12,000rpm rev limit the cars are still very fast. The cars sound good to me , the sound reminds me of JGTC cars. On a side note, I could tell which cars were Chevy or Honda powered by the sound alone, even though the engines are of similar configuration.
Only a few teams testing, but got to see drivers like: Tony Kanaan, Scott Dixon, Helio Castroneves, Dario Franchitti, Marco Andretti, and Indy rookie / F1 Veteran Rubens Barrichello to name a few. Very cooling seeing that caliber of drivers in person.
Since it was a test day, there weren’t too many people at the track, it was nice to walk around without all the crowds of a race weekend. Took a quick nap with the sound of Indy Cars lapping… quite relaxing.

I tagged along with my friends to another track day with BlackTrax Performance at Thunderhill Raceway. First impressions of Thunderhill is that its a fast 15 turn track, with some nice elevation changes. Although it was mostly S2000′s , there was a nice mix of Honda’s and BMW’s.
I love just walking around the pits and checking out everyone’s “racecars”. Track people seem very approachable and answer all my stupid questions. Always good to talk to people and learn things about different types of cars. I still want to try out the track for myself. Looks so fun… Now i just need to change my setup completely and get a trailer. Or maybe just get a Honda 2000.
Thanks to BlackTrax for putting on such cool events, and thanks to my friends again for the ride alongs. I am on my way to being a Professional Passenger.

Today was another one of those cold rainy days in San Francisco, so I decided to finish the last of my pics from Wekfest IV San Francisco. Ive always enjoyed Wekfest, and its got me thinking maybe I should try to hit up one of the stops of the Wekfest tour. Wekfest LA is looking real good at this point, just gotta see if I can work out the date. Its always a nice change of pace when I leave the Bay Area for an event. Shows in socal have always been fun, and the weather cant hurt either. Until the next time. Enjoy
